MonoDuty vs Squadcast (SolarWinds Incident Response)

Use current SolarWinds Incident Response scope when evaluating Squadcast. The old brand remains useful for finding documentation, but old pricing tables should not drive the purchase. Compare focused alert ownership with the response and service-context features your team will actually use.

Make the decision around your team’s work

Replacing an old Squadcast quote

Rebuild the quote using current Pro, Premium or Enterprise scope. Separate scheduled escalation, postmortem work, incident workflows and SLO tracking. Features included in a historic plan may not map directly to today's named tier.

Paging people in different countries

SolarWinds Pro lists different combined SMS/voice allowances for the US, India and Brazil versus other destinations. MonoDuty uses its own monthly quotas. Estimate the pilot's actual usage and ask how unsuccessful attempts, retries and excess volume are counted.

Keeping service context useful

If runbooks, service graphs or SLOs are part of the purchasing reason, demonstrate how they change the responder's next action. A focused alert workflow may be sufficient when those responsibilities already live elsewhere, but preserve the links and ownership through the migration.

MonoDuty

Focused monitoring, incident alerting and on-call ownership.

Paid entry
Pro: $9/user/month, up to 25 users. Business: $19/user/month. Paid subscriptions are sales-assisted. Source
Free scope
One user; email notifications; 50 incidents/month and 7-day history. Source
Delivery and limits
Pro includes 500 SMS and 200 voice notifications/month; Business 2,000 SMS and 500 voice. Confirm destinations and channel availability. Source
Schedules
Team schedules with time zones, rotation layers and temporary overrides. Custom escalation policies require Pro or Business; repeated execution is not implemented. Source
Response workflow
Incident acknowledgment and resolution are documented. Slack updates are one-way; responders act in MonoDuty or supported response paths. Source
Monitoring
HTTP/HTTPS checks run from Helsinki. This is a single-location monitoring worker. Source

Ask during the trial: Require a real missed-acknowledgment test, quota checks and an exit export. Do not assume mobile push, chat-side response actions or repeating escalation loops.

What to prove in the trial

  1. Map one current sender's incident lifecycle to the proposed target and replay duplicates.
  2. Test escalation to responders in the countries your rotation covers.
  3. Run the required post-incident or service-context workflow in the exact proposed plan.
  4. Record the export format, retained history and rollback path under the current contract.

Use synthetic events and agreed test recipients. Keep the current paging route active while you gather evidence, then rehearse rollback before cutover.
