MonoDuty vs PagerDuty
Start with the work your responders need to finish. A small service needing HTTP checks, a heartbeat and an owned alert is a different purchase from an organization coordinating many incident types and downstream systems. MonoDuty is worth a focused pilot for the first case; PagerDuty deserves evaluation when the broader response and administration requirements matter.

One service, a primary and a backup
Write the exact route before comparing seats: which condition opens an incident, who is selected at the handoff boundary, when the backup gets notified, and what acknowledgment stops. MonoDuty now documents schedules and custom paid escalation policies. Its lack of repeated escalation execution is material if your current policy loops until someone responds.
Several teams and an established incident process
Inventory incident roles, chat actions, ITSM synchronization, automation and audit requirements. Check each in the proposed PagerDuty plan. A feature that needs an add-on belongs in the quote. A MonoDuty webhook accepting a mapped payload does not establish parity with a native integration or a bidirectional workflow.

What to prove in the trial
- Replay a sanitized trigger, duplicate and recovery event; record which incident each touches.
- Trigger immediately before and after a schedule handoff and during a temporary override.
- Leave the first notification unacknowledged; record the actual backup arrival and final fallback.
- Test acknowledgment from every required channel and verify escalation stops.
- Export configuration and incident evidence; rehearse switching the sender back.
Use synthetic events and agreed test recipients. Keep the current paging route active while you gather evidence, then rehearse rollback before cutover.
