MonoDuty vs FireHydrant

Evaluate FireHydrant when repeatable incident coordination and runbooks are central to the requirement. Evaluate MonoDuty when the first job is detecting a condition and establishing an owner. Both still need the same delivery, acknowledgment and fallback evidence.

Make the decision around your team’s work

A runbook must actually run during the incident

Choose a scenario that needs declaration, a service owner, a communication step and a retrospective. Test the actions with FireHydrant's proposed tier and count required integrations. For a focused MonoDuty workflow, identify which of those responsibilities remain in your existing systems.

A per-responder price is not the complete quote

FireHydrant's pricing page lists a responder price, SMS/voice purchases and a Signals FAQ based on alerts sent. Keep those items explicit and obtain a complete quote. The worksheet's extra-cost field exists for this reason; entering zero is a planning assumption, not a verified free allowance.

Noisy sources can affect operations and cost

Replay a representative, sanitized stream including duplicates and recovery. Record the resulting incidents, counted alert usage and actual notifications. Fix unnecessary source volume before relying on a usage estimate or moving the production sender.

MonoDuty

Focused monitoring, incident alerting and on-call ownership.

Paid entry
Pro: $9/user/month, up to 25 users. Business: $19/user/month. Paid subscriptions are sales-assisted. Source
Free scope
One user; email notifications; 50 incidents/month and 7-day history. Source
Delivery and limits
Pro includes 500 SMS and 200 voice notifications/month; Business 2,000 SMS and 500 voice. Confirm destinations and channel availability. Source
Schedules
Team schedules with time zones, rotation layers and temporary overrides. Custom escalation policies require Pro or Business; repeated execution is not implemented. Source
Response workflow
Incident acknowledgment and resolution are documented. Slack updates are one-way; responders act in MonoDuty or supported response paths. Source
Monitoring
HTTP/HTTPS checks run from Helsinki. This is a single-location monitoring worker. Source

Ask during the trial: Require a real missed-acknowledgment test, quota checks and an exit export. Do not assume mobile push, chat-side response actions or repeating escalation loops.

Public sources checked 2026-09-11. No independent reliability benchmark.

FireHydrant

Incident coordination and runbooks with Signals on-call and alerting.

Paid entry
Pro: $25/responder/month, billed annually. Enterprise pricing is custom. Source
Free scope
Incident Management free tier lists ten responders, two runbooks and three integrations; that is not a full paid paging entitlement. Source
Response workflow
Pro lists a service catalog, five runbooks, Slack/Teams chatbot and on-call scheduling with unlimited escalation policies. Source
Cost checks
SMS and voice are purchased separately. The FAQ says Signals is charged by alert volume; do not use the responder price as a complete paging quote. Source

Ask during the trial: Request a complete quote including Signals volume and SMS/voice. Its pricing page lists a responder price but also says Signals is charged by alerts sent.

Public sources checked 2026-09-11. No independent reliability benchmark.

What to prove in the trial

  1. Replay duplicate and recovery events while recording counted alerts and notifications.
  2. Complete a scheduled escalation with SMS or voice enabled in the proposed plan.
  3. Run the required coordination and retrospective steps using the needed integrations.
  4. Reconcile responder, Signals-volume and communication costs before cutover.

Use synthetic events and agreed test recipients. Keep the current paging route active while you gather evidence, then rehearse rollback before cutover.
