Override

A temporary schedule change that replaces the normally assigned responder. Overrides are how a schedule survives contact with real life — illness, travel, a swapped weekend — but they are also a common source of coverage gaps when they are agreed verbally, applied to the wrong window, or expire before the shift they were meant to cover.
In practice
Two engineers agree a weekend swap in a chat thread but never record it in the schedule. The page goes to the person who is travelling, and the person who agreed to cover never sees it.
